How to Manage Your Time Effectively

You may have been told at some point that you need to manage your time more wisely. However, doing so can be more difficult than it seems at first. How do you make the most out of every day? Here are some tips about the art of proper time management.

Schedule any important events or appointments. Try to create a time limit for those events. Once you have a schedule written out for the day, do your best to stick to it. If one thing runs over, try and find something else where you could reduce the allowed time. This will help you get through your day without going over your time constraints.

If you have a smartphone, investigate its time management capabilities.  Most modern phones come pre-loaded with calendar and “to-do-list” software which can make it much easier to keep track of your essential tasks. You can also download third-party apps designed especially for time management to boost your productivity even further.

If you are having difficulty with time management, take a step back and assess the effectiveness of your current work style. If you have a hard time concentrating, figure out why. Try eliminating distractions, such as cell phones always ringing or the ping of incoming emails. Turning off technology can help you focus much better!

Exclude social media from your workspace. It can literally suck hours out of your day if you aren’t careful. Whilst it may be tempting to look at your Facebook and Twitter accounts, you’ll be much more efficient if you don’t!

Do not be a slave to email. Set aside time each day when you will read and send emails and make sure you stop at a pre-determined time. Do not let email dictate your life.

If you are working on a project, consider closing your office door. An open door signals that you are available. The privacy you need to concentrate on the task at hand may be just a closed door away. People will know you are busy and will leave you alone, meaning you can do what you need to do.

Careful time management will allow you to make the most out of your day, so that you can achieve more and feel less harried. That way, not only can you get things done but also you will still have time left over for relaxation and rest.
